Michael Günzburger
is interested in the mundane and everyday be it landscapes, patterns
or objects. For In a furnished flat in Cairo, Günzburger
conducts an exploration of the moment when something is turned into
a work of art, consciously or otherwise and the effects of reducing
the physical distance between the studio and the exhibition space
by showing work in the area of its construction.
The drawings are direct reactions to the place where they are made.
The process is almost like that of furnishing an apartment: utilizing
what already exists in the space and rearranging or recreating relationships
between the different elements.
The space where these interventions happen is everywhere in the flat.
They slip into unwanted spaces or connect two installations -artistically
or otherwise- or be in another artwork. Each drawing has a different
lifespan depending on the materials from which it has been constructed. |
